Sri Lanka vs Australia 3rd Test Match Cricket Highlights. at SSC, Colombo, Aug 13 - Aug 17, 2016
1_x264 by powerfactory It hardly happens in a Test match that both the teams score an equal number of runs in a day’s play. It was really unique in the context of the game that both the sides exactly scored 141 runs, the only difference being the wickets lost. On one end, Sri Lanka lost 4 wickets, while Australia just lost the solitary wicket of David Warner.
Yes, you read it correctly. For the first time in the series, the Australian batsmen have been able to counter the Sri Lankan spin attack and managed to score close to 150 runs for the loss of only one wicket. After losing David Warner earlier in the innings, Shaun Marsh and Steve Smith battled hard against the Sri Lankan spinners to keep their wickets intact. There were a few play and misses from both the players who had their share of luck through the most part of the innings.
As time went by, both the players reached their respective half-centuries and were also able to put on 120 runs for the 2nd wicket. It was a partnership that was crucial for them to get close to Sri Lanka’s total. Nevertheless, they still trail by 214 runs and will require these two batsmen to continue as long as possible.
Earlier in the day, Dinesh Chandimal got to his 7th Test hundred and he along with Rangana Herath made it possible for the hosts to put up a challenging total of 355 runs on the board. They were also helped a bit by the Australian skipper, as he put down two relatively simple chances in the slip cordon.
The Aussie strike bowler, Mitchell Starc, was once again their best performer as he finished with yet another five-wicket haul in the series. It was the third consecutive time that the speedster had picked up five wickets or more. For me, he truly deserves the Man of the Series award for the way he has bowled in these unconducive conditions.
